Red Hat Enterprise Linux at Iowa State University

Requesting a Red Hat Network Account

To access the Red Hat Network (RHN) to receive updates for your Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system, you need to have an account with the RHN. You can, if you wish, register your own account with Red Hat and purchase your own entitlements to Red Hat software. However, if you wish to take advantage of the managment site subscription purchased by Iowa State University from Red Hat and the faster downloads from the ISU proxy server, you must request an account from ISU and follow conventions established by ISU for the naming and use of those accounts.

To request an account, go to https://asw.iastate.edu/cgi-bin/acropolis/request/rhn.  When the account is created, Red Hat will automatically send you an e-mail containing your account name and password. Please do confirm your email address with the RHN and login to the RHN at https://rhn.redhat.com/ to change your password.

Note:Please do not register a machine with the RHN until you receive an activation key issued by Iowa State University (ISU). This will be sent to you via email by a local ISU RHN administrator.

Upon receiving your activation key, you may use it to register your systems with the RHN and begin to use its management facilities.
