Installing Red Hat Enterprise Linux at Iowa State
If you are an Iowa State University student, faculty member, or staff employee, you can install Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) on personal equipment. Additionally, University IT staff can install RHEL on university owned systems. In either case, you must start by getting a Red Hat Network account.
Getting a Red Hat Network Account
To get started, use the link below to request an RHN account:
https://asw.iastate.edu/cgi-bin/acropolis/request/rhn/rhnregister
You will receive an e-mail with your RHN login and password.
Special Instructions for IT Staff
IT staff who will be managing several RHEL systems, and may be working in a group with other IT staff, should use the special instructions form:
https://asw.iastate.edu/cgi-bin/acropolis/request/rhn/rhnmodify
In the special request form, you should indicate that you are requesting an account and key for your IT group, and indicate what other RHN accounts should be associated with your group.
Getting the Medusa Image
Once you have received your activation key, you can install RHEL on your systems. To start the installation, you will need to download a special ISO image that contains several different installation boot images, including several flavors of RHEL and Fedora. The Medusa DVD is located here:
